The event features local BBQ restaurants and food trucks, Rocket City’s top bands, recording artists, DJs, and local businesses from across the Tennessee Valley. It promises to delight both taste buds and ears.

The 4th Community Fun & Wellness Festival, organized by Central North Alabama Health Services, Inc., HAPPI Health, and Thrive Alabama, promises a day full of engaging activities and valuable health services. This family-friendly festival will feature health screenings, sports physicals, bounce houses, a petting zoo, and complimentary snow cones for the first 100 attendees. The event will also include a DJ, various giveaways, and information about community resources.

Foraging Hike at Harvest Square 🌳🍓🚶‍♂️

In the height of summer, the fruits of the forest become harder to find but all the sweeter in the hunt. On August 10, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, join Forager Casey Lanier for a slow-paced, easy hike covering about 2 miles at Harvest Square Nature Preserve, 111 Allyson Sadie Blvd, Harvest, AL 35749. Discover what nature offers even in the scorch of August. Organized by Land Trust of North Alabama, registration is required. Book Signing With Qu Ran Dees 📚✍️👟

Heart and Sole Sneaker Boutique hosts a special book signing event featuring the author of the newly released books, "Ladybug" and "Follow the Leader." Attendees can get their copies signed, meet the creative mind behind these inspiring books, and chat with fellow book lovers. This event also offers a chance to support a local author and celebrate the power of storytelling, with the added opportunity to explore new sneaker arrivals. Books are available for purchase in advance via Amazon or locally. The event is free to attend, but RSVPs are encouraged for a chance to win a free book copy.

Huntsville Author Published New Children’s Book

Dorrance Publishing Co., Inc. has released "Clark the Super Service Dog," a new book by Michael Connelly and illustrated by Ethan Roffler. This 52-page paperback, priced at $24.00 ($19.00 for the eBook), tells the inspiring story of Clark, a service dog who transforms his owner's life. Narrated from Clark's perspective, the book chronicles his journey from adoption to becoming a dedicated service dog for Mike, highlighting the deep bond between them. The story raises awareness about the vital role of service animals and shares Mike's personal struggles and path to recovery. Huntsville Pediatrician Passes Away

Dr. Charles Richardson Horton, Jr., passed away on August 4, 2024, at the age of 58, after a 16-month battle with glioblastoma. Chuck is survived by his wife of 31 years, Melea Pfeil Horton; their two daughters, Laura and Maggie Horton; his parents, Rita and Charlie Horton; and numerous family members. Chuck graduated from Huntsville High School, Auburn University, and the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He later became a dedicated pediatrician and managing partner of Twickenham Pediatrics for 27 years, where he was my and many others in the community pediatrician.

He also served in leadership roles at Crestwood Medical Center, Huntsville Hospital, and the University of Alabama Medical School Huntsville campus and was president of the Madison County Medical Society. Visitation will be on Friday, August 9, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Huntsville First United Methodist Church, with a graveside service on Saturday, August 10, at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Ridge Church Cemetery in Pleasant Ridge, Alabama. Memorials can be sent to the Huntsville Hospital Foundation or the Auburn University College of Sciences and Mathematics Dr. Charles R. Horton, Jr. Endowed Memorial Scholarship.

Huntsville International Airport Sees Record-Breaking Growth

Huntsville International Airport is experiencing unprecedented growth, breaking records for passenger traffic and parking this summer. On June 26, nearly 90% of parking spots were occupied, setting a new all-time daily record. Monthly passenger numbers have ranged from 135,000 to 147,000, prompting plans for a new overflow parking lot with 300 additional spaces. Talyn Walton from the airport attributed the surge to more people choosing Huntsville as their home airport, drawn by an increasing number of leisure destinations. Despite a recent $1 increase in daily parking rates, the airport remains committed to accommodating growth and ensuring ease of travel for passengers.

Huntsville City FC Names Chris O’Neal as New Head Coach

Huntsville City Football Club announced Chris O’Neal as its new head coach during a press conference on Thursday. O’Neal, who recently served as the U-17 coach for Inter Miami CF Academy. O’Neal is set to make his coaching debut on August 10 against Chattanooga FC at Wicks Family Field. Before joining Inter Miami, O’Neal spent five years with the Sporting KC Academy, coaching the U-15 and U-17 teams, and also served as Team Adidas Director at Vestavia Hills Soccer Club. He played college soccer at the University of Alabama at Birmingham from 2001 to 2003.

Grounded Coffee Announces Closure After 11 Years in Madison, Alabama ☕

Sadly, despite hopes and prayers to continue Grounded with a new partner, the team has not finalized a lease with their landlord to allow Grounded to continue. As a result, the café will be closing effective Monday. The Grounded Coffee team appreciates the community's patience over the past few weeks. Serving Madison, Alabama, for the past 11 years has been an absolute pleasure, and they are deeply thankful for every one of their guests.

One Man Vintage is Upgrading Locations 👚

Unofficially, One Man Vintage is moving to a store along the Clinton Row Shopping Mall. Before, they were located inside the Downtown Storage Building and along Clinton Row. Congrats to One Man Vintage on the potential upgrade!

The firm, founded in 1990, is renowned for assisting clients in planning, recruiting, assessing, and developing superior executive leadership talent. The expansion was celebrated at the 106 Jefferson Hotel on July 29, 2024, with a semi-annual State of the Firm meeting themed "Gather & Grow," focusing on offices in Alabama, Tennessee, and Georgia. The Trash Pandas had another rough weekend against the Biloxi Shuckers. They’re now 48-54 on the year and 13 games behind first place in their division. The Pandas will look to turn it around at Toyota Field against the Birmingham Barons. You can buy tickets here.

The Angels have called up first-round draft pick, former Tennessee Volunteer second basemen, and National Champion Christian Moore. He only lasted in two games in High-A before getting called up. And has already splashed on the scene with a walk-off home run in a Wednesday night game.

Huntsville City Football Club drew 1-1 against Crown Legacy FC at Mecklenburg County Sportsplex at Matthews. Huntsville took the lead in the 71st minute when Tyler Pasnik assisted Ethan O’Brien, who scored his first goal of the season with a shot into the top right corner from just outside the box. Crown Legacy equalized with the last kick of regulation and secured an extra point with a 4-3 shootout win.

UNA Football Players Recognized with Phil Steele Preseason Awards

Seven University of North Alabama football players received 10 preseason FCS awards from Phil Steele. Leading the list is Takairee Kenebrew, a Phil Steele Preseason Second Team All-American and ninth-ranked FCS wide receiver. Last season, Kenebrew recorded 42 receptions for 669 yards and 10 touchdowns, breaking UNA’s all-time career touchdown record with 26. Other honorees include Edwin White Schultz, Jackson Bratton, and Logan Collier, with Schultz named UAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. UNA kicks off the 2024 season against Southeast Missouri, with the game nationally televised on ESPN at 6 p.m.

Huntsville's JuVaughn Harrison Set for Second Olympic Appearance

JuVaughn Harrison, a Huntsville native, made his second Olympic appearance representing Team USA. Track and field excellence runs in his family, with both his grandmother and mother, an Alabama A&M Athletic Hall of Fame member, being accomplished athletes. Harrison attended Providence Elementary and Columbia High School in Huntsville, where he set school records in the high jump, long jump, 300 hurdles, and 110 hurdles. He continued his athletic and academic journey at LSU, earning a degree in Sports Administration.
