Guided Hike at Harvest Square Nature Preserve 🚶‍♂️🌳

On Towel Day, hike at Harvest Square Nature Preserve with the Land Trust of North Alabama. This easy 1.75-mile, one-hour hike explores diverse plant and animal life along crushed limestone paths and boardwalks, covering nearly the entire preserve except for part of Senators Trail.

The hike is from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at 111 Allyson Sadie Blvd, Harvest, AL. Registration is required at landtrustnal.org/guided-hikes. Remember, "A towel is just about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can carry."

Summertime is just around the corner, and Huntsville's annual Concerts in the Park series is heating up! Big Bob Gibson’s BBQ in Decatur Wins World Championship for Pork Shoulder

Big Bob Gibson’s BBQ in Decatur, Alabama, won first place in the pork shoulder category at the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest in Memphis, adding to its 15 prior world barbecue championships. Executive Chef Chris Lilly also secured a third-place win in the Kingsford Tour of Champions. Founded in 1925 by Bob Gibson, the restaurant is famous for its smoked chicken with white sauce. This year's grand champion was The Shed BBQ and Blues Joint from Ocean Springs, Mississippi, winning the hog division. The competition, dating back to the 1970s, awarded over $150,000 in prize money across various categories, with pork as the main event.

Grand Opening for New Huntsville City Hall

The new Huntsville City Hall building's ribbon cutting occurred on Tuesday at 10 a.m., marking its official grand opening. Mayor Tommy Battle and the City of Huntsville invited the public to attend the ribbon-cutting and tour the new building.

Huntsville Times May 24, 1946:

“Mr. and Mrs. Phil W. Peeler were hosts at a dinner in the ballroom of the Russel Erskine Hotel, honoring the members of the senior class at Lincoln High School and members of the faculty. Flowers in mixed variety were used to center the table and covers were laid for 50 seniors, faculty members and guests. The program consisted of impromtu talks by senior officers and teachers. Music for the occasion was provided by Miss Georgette Graham.”

The Rocket City Trash Pandas hold a 21-20 record, placing them third out of four teams in their division, six games behind the first-place team.

Recently, the Trash Pandas had a mixed series against the Tennessee Smokies, with a loss on 5/17 (3-4), followed by wins on 5/18 (5-0) and 5/19 (2-0). They also split their first two games against the Montgomery Biscuits, winning 9-4 on 5/21 and losing 2-3 on 5/22.

Huntsville City is currently 1-1 against Orlando all time, with their most recent game ending in a 6-2 victory. This is a great opportunity for the boys to pull out their first victory and start chipping away at turning the season around.

Huntsville City Football Club fell 3-2 to Atlanta United 2 at Wicks Family Field despite Foster Ajago's two goals in his return from injury. Atlanta's Javier Armas and Miles Hadley scored first, but Ajago trimmed the lead with a goal in the 66th minute. Karim Tmimi extended Atlanta's lead, but Ajago scored again for Huntsville. 4,807 people were in attendance.
