$2.2 Billion Housing Development

A $2.2 billion development spanning 411 acres is planned at the intersection of Interstate 65 and 565, aiming to transform the area between Huntsville and Decatur near Mooresville. This ambitious project, a collaboration between Nashville's Rochford Realty & Construction Co., Land Innovations, and the family behind 1818 Farms, proposes over 3,500 residential units and 200,000 square feet of commercial space. Modeled on the community-focused Stephens Valley near Nashville, the development emphasizes sustainable growth and walkability, focusing on long-term community and environmental integrity.

New Loretta Sports Complex

Huntsville city officials recently inaugurated the Loretta Spencer Sports Complex, which they anticipate will enhance sports tourism by accommodating high school and potentially college-level soccer tournaments. The complex, featuring new artificial turf fields, a press box, and expanded parking, will also host lacrosse, rugby, and ultimate frisbee events. According to Mark Russell of the Huntsville Sports Commission, over 40 high school teams are expected this weekend, with the enhanced facilities also contributing significantly to local hotel and restaurant sectors.

Huntsville History 📔

May 10, 1940 - The Huntsville Times

“Authority has been given to the city park committee to spend approximately $8,500 within the next few days toward putting the new swimming pool in shape for use in the early part of June. The expenditure, which will include installing plumbing fixtures, buying sterilization equipment and erecting temporary bath houses and board walks, was approved by the city council last night at its regular meeting. The park committee already has engaged Huntsville High School's Coach, Milton Frank, to manage the pool this summer. With the "go ahead" signal given by the council, the park committee and others connected with the pool project, expect to open the swimming place around June 10.”
