Huntsville History 📖

December 27, 1854 - The Southern Advocate

The Weather continues cold and very dry. On Tuesday last we had a slight Snow; but it does not rain; every time it has looked like raining for the two months past it has only sprinkled a little and then turned off cold and dry again. The Tennessee River is quite low, the mail boats can just run between the Bridge and Decatur, carrying up but little cotton. We have never known such a dry season so late into the winter. So little cotton has gone to market that money is terribly scare here, and every thing edible extravagantly high.
