Goblin Mode!!! 🧙‍♂️🌆

Laughter and adventure await with 'Goblin Mode,' a live roleplaying game featuring improv and comedy performers. Shape Corp. to invest $74 million in new Huntsville-Limestone County facility

Shape Corp. celebrated the grand opening of its new $74 million facility in Huntsville-Limestone County on June 26, 2024. The ribbon-cutting ceremony, held at the 202,306 sq. ft. location in Southpoint Industrial Park, This second Alabama facility in Tanner, is expected to create over 100 new jobs next year. The facility specializes in lightweight aluminum and steel crash management and structural components for automobiles, introducing roll-forming capabilities to enhance vehicle performance and safety. Shape Corp., headquartered in Grand Haven, Michigan, is marking its 50th anniversary this year and employs 4,200 people across 14 manufacturing plants and five tech centers worldwide.

The City of Huntsville approves $7.1 million, nine-acre urban park

Last week, the Huntsville City Council approved a $7.1 million construction contract to build Hays Farm Central Park in South Huntsville. The park will feature walking paths, greenway connectivity, LED lighting, a fitness court in conjunction with Arts Huntsville, a gazebo, a windmill, a lagoon, a waterfall, a pavilion, and restrooms. Located on the west side of Haysland Road, across from Grissom High School, the park will also be accessible through a tunnel to the nearby Hayes Farm Sports Park. The City signed the construction contract with Bailey-Harris Construction Company, with completion expected in the fall of 2025.

Independence Day Holiday Schedule for North Alabama City Services

Decatur:

  • Sanitation Department schedule changes:

    • Thursday's routes will be collected on Friday, July 5.

    • Friday's routes will be collected on Monday, July 8.

  • City Hall will be closed on Thursday, July 4.

Athens:

  • City offices will be closed on July 4 and July 5.

  • Sanitation services will run as usual; have bins at the curb by 6 a.m.

  • A fireworks show will take place at 8 p.m. from the stadium, weather permitting.

Huntsville:

  • City offices, including Animal Services, Public Transit, and Municipal Court, will be closed on July 4 and will reopen on Friday, July 5, at 8 a.m.

  • Garbage collection will be delayed during the week of July 1-5. Residents should leave their carts at the curb until collected.

  • Parks and Recreation facilities will be closed, except for splash pads, which will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

  • Essential police and fire personnel will be on duty throughout the holiday.

Tuscumbia:

  • City offices will be closed on July 4.

  • All garbage pickup will run one day early.

Florence:

  • City offices will be closed on July 4.

  • Sanitation services will follow regular schedules for Tuesday and Wednesday.

    • Thursday's collection will be on Friday.

    • Friday's collection will be on Saturday.

Fort Payne:

  • Sanitation will run normal routes this week, including Thursday, July 4.

  • All other city buildings will be closed on July 4 and 5.

Huntsville City FC ⚽️

Huntsville City FC fell to 2-9-4 with a tie against Carolina this past week. They will have a bye this week to prepare for back-to-back away games. They’re currently last in the Eastern Conference and Next Pro standings.

vs. Carolina Core FC

Huntsville City FC drew 1-1 against Carolina Core FC at Wicks Family Field. Huntsville scored in the 78th minute, but Carolina equalized through in the 85th minute. The match ended in a penalty shootout, with Carolina winning 6-5. Huntsville City FC will take a bye week before facing New England Revolution II on July 10.

WGCA All-American Scholar Team

Congratulations to Elle Webber and Ava Schwartz for being named to the WGCA (Women’s Golf Coaches Association) All-American Scholar Team! Elle and Ava played golf together at Huntsville High and have continued their athletic careers, with Elle now at Converse University and Ava at UAB. They are among just 344 freshmen across all collegiate levels to receive this prestigious honor.

NCAA Baseball Champions

Huntsville natives AJ Causey and Stone Lawless won the NCAA baseball championship with the Tennessee Volunteers. AJ Causey, a junior right-handed pitcher from Harvest, Alabama, attended Sparkman High School. Stone Lawless, a freshman catcher from Huntsville High School.

Grissom Linebacker Commits to East Carolina University

Jordan Miles, a rising senior at Grissom High School, has committed to play football for East Carolina University. Rated as a three-star prospect by 247 Sports, Miles chose East Carolina over Arkansas State, Memphis, and UAB. In his junior year, he recorded 60 tackles, six tackles for loss, two sacks, and two forced fumbles. Ranked 80th overall in Alabama for the Class of 2025.
