The Huntsville Times - January 12, 1972
Former Butler High School Principal John Homer Crim's 42-year education career ended last night when the city Board of Education accepted his resignation. Crim, who left Butler last year to to join the central office staff as curriculum consultant for the new J.O.Johnson High School, served as principal for the school since it was created by consolidating three local county high schools and named Butler in 1950. His career began in 1929 as a teacher and coach. Three years later he moved to Huntsville to become Principal of West Huntsville School, a 12-grade facility. He was presented the city's distinguished citizen award in 1970 by the Huntsville-Madison County Chamber of Commerce. City Superintendent of Education V.M. Burkett said Crim made the decision to retire because teacher retirement benefits were recently hiked by the state legislature.
