Madison Witches Stroll 🧙🏾‍♀️🍬🎉

The Madison Witches Stroll is set to enchant the community with its signature Halloween festivities. This beloved event features witches of all kinds as they parade through the streets, tossing candy to delighted children along the route and spreading Halloween cheer.

Following the stroll, participants can look forward to a vibrant block party, complete with a Pet Parade Costume Contest and a Pumpkin Decorating Contest. Food trucks will be on-site, offering various delicious options, while live music and numerous kids' activities ensure something for everyone to enjoy.

Kids Read to a Therapy Dog 📖 🐶

DOJ awards over $6 Million to North Alabama organizations

The U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs has awarded grants to several North Alabama organizations to enhance public safety and community support.

  • Alabama A&M University: $300,000 for campus security.

  • Madison County Sheriff’s Office: $1,020,000 for new patrol vehicles.

  • Morgan County: $595,000 for active shooter response equipment.

  • National Child Advocacy Center: $1,100,000 for child advocacy support.

  • City of Sheffield: $495,000 for police vehicles.

  • Alabama Law Enforcement Agency: $3,097,598 for justice system upgrades.

“These awards demonstrate the DOJ’s commitment to improving lives in our District,” said U.S. Attorney Prim Escalona.

Huntsville among the top 10 cities for aspiring entrepreneurs

Huntsville has been ranked No. 10 in the nation for aspiring small business owners, according to CoworkingCafe's latest study. The city stood out for its strong growth rate in new business applications and favorable conditions for entrepreneurs, including a 20.5% increase in business applications from 2018 to 2023.

Southern cities dominated the rankings, with Huntsville joining Miami (No. 2), Atlanta (No. 3), and other Alabama cities like Montgomery (No. 76) and Birmingham (No. 94). The study also highlighted Huntsville’s 4.6% unemployment rate, 31.1% GDP growth since 2018, and a high percentage of residents with bachelor’s degrees.

Alabama Fire College announces $14M expansion to boost EMS Training

The Alabama Fire College (AFC) has unveiled a $14 million expansion to tackle the growing shortage of emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics, especially in rural areas. Announced on October 4, the plan includes new classrooms, advanced simulation labs, and hybrid learning options to make training more accessible.

The expansion aims to build on AFC’s record enrollment of over 30,000 students this year and bring economic benefits to Tuscaloosa County. State Sen. Gerald Allen, R-Tuscaloosa, praised the initiative as a vital step for enhancing EMS preparedness across the state.

A contest will be started tomorrow and the lady receiving the largest number of votes will take the part of leading lady in the moving picture drama that will be staged and produced here in Huntsville or she will be given $75.00 or a trip to the panama exposition. Ten votes will be given with each admission ticket to the Picto and the nomination blank cut from The Daily Times, properly filled out and sent to the Picto will entitle the lady to one hundred votes.
