Monte Sano Art Festival ๐ผ
The Monte Sano Art Festival has been an exciting tradition for the North Alabama community for over two decades. Featuring the best local and regional artists representing an array of disciplines and techniques, the Monte Sano Art Festival is a treasure chest full of one-of-a-kind masterpieces. Arts Huntsville does not charge admission to the festival; however, Monte Sano State Park will charge for parking or per walk-in festival attendee. All funds go towards supporting the state parks system.

Tinkerfest 2024 ๐จ๐ณโจ
Now in its second year, Tinkerfest brings together over 25 local vendors to celebrate all things STEAM with interactive activities and demonstrations. Held at EarlyWorks Children's Museum, Constitution Hall Park, and along the surrounding streets, this festival sparks curiosity and creativity for guests of all ages. Explore the world of makers, engineers, robotics, and educators as they showcase how their unique skills come together to reveal how things work.
For tickets, select general admission for September 21st. Tinkerfest is included with general admission, free for members, and all applicable discounts apply.

Orion Amphitheater earns nomination for prestigious national award
Huntsville's Orion Amphitheater has received its third consecutive Amphitheater of the Year nomination at the 2024 IEBA Awards. The International Entertainment Buyers Association (IEBA) is a nonprofit organization for live entertainment professionals, and its annual conference is a major industry event. Orionโs managing director, Ryan Murphy, expressed pride in the recognition from such a respected organization. Last yearโs winner was The Greek Theater in Los Angeles, and the 2024 winners will be announced during the IEBA conference in Nashville from October 6-8. Other nominees include The Gorge Amphitheater, The Hollywood Bowl, Koka Booth Amphitheatre, and Pine Knob Music Theatre.
Mayor Tommy Battle introduces balanced budget for 2025 fiscal year
Mayor Tommy Battle introduced the Cityโs proposed 2025 fiscal year budget to the City Council, emphasizing a strong commitment to addressing community needs and priorities with innovative and strategic financial planning. The Mayor proposed a balanced $328,166,362 operating budget, which includes $33,059,674 in special appropriations for 57 outside agencies.
The budget addresses the infrastructure demands of a growing city by expanding the police and fire departments and improving roads. Affordable housing is another priority reflected in the budget, and the City continues to find creative and impactful ways to make housing sustainable and homeownership an attainable goal for citizens.
University of Alabama surpasses 40,000 students for the first time
According to school officials, the University of Alabama has exceeded 40,000 students for the first time, reaching a record-high number of in-state first-year students. For Fall 2024, total enrollment stands at 40,846, including 3,434 freshmen from Alabama โ the largest in-state freshman class in the university's history. This marks a 7.9% increase in in-state enrollment and the sixth consecutive year of growth in this category.

The three seventh grade classes of East Clinton School visited the Madison County Courthouse Friday afternoon to learn more about their government. The three teachers, Miss Theo Harris, Mrs. Guy Braswell and Mrs. W. P. Nicholson, and Mrs. T. L. Woods, Principal, also accompanied the group. Charles M. Cason explained the voting machine to the pupils, after which the children and the teachers assembled in the courtroom. Judge Elbert H. Parsons outlined the system of county courts. A demonstration of a trial in which the pupils played the role of Judge, Jury and all other necessary officials of the court created much interest. City traffic officers accompanied the group to and from the Courthouse.

The Huntsville/Madison County Chamber celebrated local small businesses and individuals during the 39th Annual Small Business Awards Gala at the Von Braun Centerโs Saturn Ballroom. Chambers of Commerce conducted scoring and judging from outside the region to ensure impartiality.
Huntsville-based PDW secures contract to provide drones for the U.S. Army
PDW has secured a contract to supply its C100 Group 2 small Unmanned Aerial System (sUAS) to the U.S. Army, supporting their Company-Level sUAS Directed Requirement. The C100, a portable vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) drone, will enhance the Armyโs fire and maneuver capabilities, particularly in contested environments. Designed to meet the Armyโs medium-range reconnaissance needs, the C100 is modular and versatile, capable of handling tasks such as reconnaissance, surveillance, target acquisition, and communications relay. With its extended endurance and payload capacity, the C100 offers significant advantages for units operating in challenging conditions. PDW CEO Ryan Gury expressed pride in the award, highlighting the droneโs role in advancing modern battlefield technologies.

Huntsvilleโs very first Del Taco is currently under construction on Cabela Drive, bringing excitement to local residents eager to try the popular fast-food chain. In addition, a second Del Taco is already in the works, set to open in Madison on Balch Road. Both locations will soon offer residents a new dining option with their signature menu of tacos, burritos, and other Mexican-inspired favorites!

Huntsville City Football Club secured a 6-3 victory over Atlanta United 2 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium, with forward Woobens Pacius scoring a hat trickโthe third in the club's history. Huntsville opened the scoring in the 12th minute with Pacius' first goal, followed by goals from Forster Ajago, Jony Bolaรฑos, and Pacius again to establish a commanding lead. Despite Atlanta's efforts with three goals from Noble Okello, Karim Tmimi, and Ashton Gordon, Huntsville responded with late goals from Jonathan Pรฉrez and Pacius, who completed his hat trick with a penalty kick.
